The Ann Arbor Fire Department was dispatched to a fire at the Art and Architecture Building on the University of Michigan's North Campus at 6:52 p.m. Wednesday.
The fire was extinguished by 7:05 p.m., according to U-M police. At 7:25 p.m., officials were still asking people to avoid the area until the scene was cleared.
There were no reported injuries. Diane Brown, spokeswoman for U-M police, said the extent of damages is not known at this point.
The cause of the fire is believed to have been accidental, though fire officials are still in the beginning stages of investigation.
"I think it was a student project," Brown said.
