A fire completely destroyed an unoccupied mobile home Monday afternoon in Augusta Township, causing approximately $60,000 in damage.
Augusta Township Fire Department Assistant Chief David Music said the fire started in the south end of the mobile home in the 500 block of Spanish Oak Lane. The flames then went through the floor, eventually catching the ceiling and attic on fire as well, Music said.
At that point, the fire spread throughout the attic, which was just a large open space, going end to end throughout the mobile home.
Firefighters from Augusta Township, Pittsfield Township, Ypsilanti Township and Milan were dispatched to the fire at 12:33 p.m. Monday. Music said it took until 2:45 p.m. for the fire to be knocked down and then fire crews cleared the area at 3:43 p.m.
Huron Valley Ambulance crews also were on scene to assist firefighters but no one was injured in the fire.
The mobile home was not occupied at the time of the fire. Music said the residents who leased the mobile home left about a month ago.
Music said the home was a total loss and was worth approximately $60,000. The cause of the fire is still undetermined at this point and the incident is under investigation.
