A Canton woman active in charity projects for C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House who is also working on an anti-bullying video for an Ann Arbor-based television program will represent the state at the upcoming Mrs. America Pageant.
Lisa Hemmie, 43, was crowned Mrs. Michigan in March and will compete at the Mrs. America Pageant Aug. 23-29 in Tucson, Ariz., the Observer and Eccentric reports.
The married mother of two and Milan native has used her title as Mrs. Michigan to promote volunteerism and the impact people can have on their communities. She has worked to help young girls learn the importance of teamwork, good health and community involvement to help them become more confident and reach their potential.
In addition to her charity work, Hemmie is helping to produce an anti-bullying video for “Ariel & Zoey & Eli Too,” a nationally syndicated TV show featuring two Ann Arbor teenage siblings and their younger brother.
