Oxford Cos., the new owner of the Dexter Crossing shopping center on Dexter-Ann Arbor Road in Dexter, intends to redevelop the complex and construct an additional building on the site.
The Dexter Village Council on Monday approved an area plan for the property in a 6 to 1 vote, the Dexter Patch reports.

Oxford purchased the complex in April via its investment arm. The Ann Arbor company has purchased several distressed properties this year, including downtown Ann Arbor’s former Fifth Quarter building. Oxford then invests in site upgrades to its properties.
Plans for the Dexter Crossing shopping center call for the construction of a 15,500-square-foot single-story building with 30 additional parking spaces on the southeast corner of the complex, according to the Dexter Patch report.
The company also recently finalized deals with two new tenants for the existing center: Jet’s Pizza and Jewelry Box Boutique.
The amended area plan that was approved Monday includes a possible drive-thru lane. Oxford Cos. President Jeff Hauptman said they are still considering the kinds of tenants they would want to open in the new building.
