Ann Arbor police are hoping any witnesses who may have recorded an assault in an Ann Arbor parking structure Friday morning will step forward and provide footage to investigators.
Police are still trying to unravel what exactly happened on the first level of the Maynard Street parking structure around 2 a.m. Friday morning when two Dexter men were allegedly beaten by three Jackson men.
"A lot of people were videotaping the incident," said Ann Arbor police Lt. Renee Bush.
Bush said the fight started when a 21-year-old Dexter man bumped into one of the Jackson men. Police were first dispatched to The Necto, located at 516 East Liberty Street, where the confrontation reportedly began outside on the sidewalk, Bush said.
When police arrived, witnesses said the argument had carried over into the nearby parking structure on Maynard Street off of Liberty, where the two groups of men had parked.
"They were going to their cars to leave" when the fight broke out, Bush said.
The three Jackson men -- 18, 19 and 20 years old -- walked up behind the men and knocked down the 21-year-old Dexter man and kicked him continuously in the head, Bush said.
"The second victim got stomped," she added.
The 21-year-old man suffered extensive injuries to his face, head and neck. The 20-year-old was also injured. Both men were taken to the emergency room at the University of Michigan Hospital.
Police arrived at the structure and after getting a vehicle description from witnesses soon apprehended the three suspects, who were lodged in the Washtenaw County Jail overnight on charges of aggravated assault, police said. More charges could be forthcoming.
Anyone with information or video regarding the incident, is asked to contact Det. Dave Monroe at (734) 794-6930 ext. 49308.
