About $4,000 in damage was done when a fire burned parts of a detached garage near an Ypsilanti Township home Tuesday evening, a fire official said Wednesday.
Captain Brad Johnson of the Ypsilanti Township Fire Department said crews were dispatched at 6:25 p.m. Tuesday to a home at 6395 Rossback Road after being notified by a man that his garage was on fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found the man had mostly extinguished the flames with a nearby garden hose.
“It was pretty much extinguished on arrival, but we pulled a line and finished off some small hot spots,” Johnson said. “Structurally, it’s still in good shape.”
The damage was mostly limited to the contents of the garage, Johnson said.
The cause of the fire is undetermined at this point; there were things plugged into an electrical outlet near the point of origin, but it’s unknown if that’s what caused the blaze. Johnson said the investigation will continue Wednesday.
