A small kitchen fire caused between $6,000 and $7,000 in damage to an Ypsilanti Township home Tuesday afternoon, but won’t displace the home’s residents.

Captain Dave Crescio, of the Ypsilanti Township Fire Department, said firefighters were dispatched at 3:01 p.m. Tuesday to the home in the 8000 block of Lilly Drive. Crescio said there were no flames visible from outside the home, but the first firefighters on scene could see the flames through the patio doors.

“The fire was brought under control roughly 10 minutes after arrival,” Crescio said.

It’s unknown what started the blaze at this point. No one was home at the time of the fire and the incident was reported by an alarm company, Crescio said.

The fire was contained to the kitchen area, Crescio said. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
