Former University of Michigan Police Chief Ken Magee is a finalist for police chief in Wayland, Mich., MLive reported.
Magee is among three finalists for the job in Wayland, a city of more than 4,000 residents south of Grand Rapids. The other finalists are Lt. Steven Harper, commander of the Wayland post of the Michigan State Police, and Kevin Lenkart, who recently retired from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety for 24 years.
Magee resigned from U-M in November 2010 after signing a settlement agreement that paid him a year of sick leave. Magee made $182,000. After leaving U-M, Magee opened a magic and sports memorabilia shop on Liberty Street in downtown Ann Arbor.
Wayland’s police department has officially been without a permanent head since April 20, when former chief Dan Miller was fired.
