A University of Michigan student was arrested after he broke into a professor’s office and fled the building after the professor interrupted the theft, police said.

According to the University of Michigan Police Department, the professor walked into his office at 10 p.m. Wednesday at South Hall, 701 S. State St.

He found a 21-year-old Ann Arbor man in his office, which had been locked, and the professor confronted him.

Police said the man ran away from the building, and officers eventually found him. He was placed under arrest for suspicion of burglary.

University of Michigan police are investigating to determine if the man may have committed other thefts in South Hall. He’s been released while police turn the investigation over to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office for warrant authorization.
