The wind advisory replaces a winter weather advisory that was scheduled to last until midnight.
The weather service said winds will gust to 40 to 45 mph at times and there may be occasional brief reductions in visibility from blowing snow.
Winds could bring down small tree limbs, which could cause sporadic power outages, the weather service said.
Wind gusts can also make driving high-profile vehicles, such as vans and SUVs, difficult.
A few power outages had already affected the area Friday, including one Friday morning at Skyline High School, which sent students home for the day.
Slippery roads that resulted from a light snowfall Friday also caused several accidents, including one in which a semi slid down an embankment near the east triple-decker intersection of M-14 and U.S. 23 on the northeast side of Ann Arbor.
