Light snowfall started in Washtenaw County just before dawn, prompting the National Weather Service to alert drivers that they'll need to be cautious on roads.
Area police agencies were responding to a few non-injury crashes before 8 a.m. due to slippery conditions.
By 8:15 a.m., officials were closing a portion of U.S.-12 west of Saline due to icy conditions. Responders also were sent to a crash near Schill Road that resulted in serious injuries.
The light snow showers covered much of southeast Michigan, according to the NWS, and they were expected to produce "a dusting of additional accumulation through 10 a.m."
Saturday's high was expected to hit 30F, with an overnight low projected of 14F. Snow could continue this afternoon.
Sunday should be partly cloudy, with a high in the upper 20s.
