Ypsilanti police were searching for a suspect who robbed a Rite Aid Pharmacy at gunpoint Saturday on the city's south side.

The incident took place around 7:25 p.m. at the Ride Aid store near the Gault Village Shopping Center on South Grove Street, just south of I-94.

Employees told police the suspect entered the store as if planning to make a purchase. Once the clerk opened the cash register, the man displayed a black semi-automatic handgun and took an unknown amount of cash from the drawer.

The suspect fled the scene on foot. He is described as a 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10 black male, with a green and white baseball cap, black jacket, blue jeans and white shoes.

Police used a K-9 unit in an unsuccessful search for the suspect shortly after the incident. On Sunday, police said they were working on extracting surveillance camera footage to aid in the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Sgt. Thomas Eberts at (734) 482-9878 or Crime Stoppers at (800) SPEAK-UP.
