The National Weather Service is advising motorists that rain Thursday evening may cause slippery roadways across southeast Michigan.
The weather service says the rain will spread north throughout the evening. While most locations will remain above freezing, pockets of near-freezing temperatures may produce light freezing rain. The most notable potential for icing will occur this evening while initial rainfall remains rather light. A light rain was starting in the Ann Arbor area just before 8 p.m.
Tonight's low is at 34 degrees F, and heavier rain is expected overnight. The heavier rain is expected to limit the potential of widespread slick roadways.
The Pittsfield Township Department of Public Safety even issued a Nixle alert just before 8 p.m. warning motorists to use caution on roadways.
Friday will bring overcast skies with more rain and a high around 52 degrees. Rainfall amounts up to 0.2 inches are possible, according to forecasts.
