Former Saline schools trustee Paul Hynek was re-appointed to the Board of Education Tuesday at a special meeting, the Saline Post reported.
The board accepted applications throughout the past week, with the application window ending at 4 p.m. Tuesday. The special meeting was scheduled for 6:30 p.m. that night to allow board members to review the applications and deliberate on candidates’ qualifications.
According to the Post, five individuals applied: Hynek, Tim Austin, Smita Nagpal, Heidi Pfannes and Terry Wagner.
Nagpal and Hynek ran for election to the board in November and lost to new trustees Karen Delhey and Diane Friese. Hynek was the third-place finisher in the election with 4,886 votes. Nagpal garnered 3,682 votes.
Hynek previously served on the board from 2006 to 2010.
The Post article says Trustee David Zimmer moved to postpone a vote until the board had a chance to interview all five candidates, but the motion failed.
