The grounds crew at Highland Cemetery in Ypsilanti is in the process of uprighting 50 headstones that were vandalized over the weekend. The cemetery is urging anyone with information to contact the Ypsilanti Police Department.
In an update posted Thursday morning on its Facebook page, the cemetery, at 943 N. River St., wrote that several headstones were tipped over, however, there was no permanent damage to any marker that was disturbed.
"The grounds crew is now in the process of uprighting the markers and cleanup of the trash is complete," the post said. "If anyone has information regarding this incident, please contact the Ypsilanti Police Department."
The cemetery's office manager told AnnArbor.com on Wednesday that trash was strewn across some of the headstones, but she did not provide information about the headstones being tipped over. The cemetery is notifying the families.
Multiple calls and emails to the cemetery and police department for more information were not returned.
