A brief power outage occurred Monday morning affecting about 6,878 homes and businesses in east Ann Arbor, Ann Arbor Township and Ypsilanti.
Detroit Edison spokesman Alejandro Bodipo-Memba said that outage was not caused by recent inclement weather. Thousands of customers across Michigan, including hundreds in Washtenaw County, have been without power due to high winds Sunday.

The outages were first reported at 9:45 a.m. Monday. The two causes of outage listed on DTE’s website are “Area outage” and “outage due to an auto-protection device.”
The outages ranged from Packard Road between Carpenter Road and Hewitt Road northwards stopping just below Plymouth Road. It affected most of the north side of Washtenaw Avenue between US-23 and Hewitt Road including some of Washtenaw Community College’s campus.
As of 11:20 a.m. Bodipo-Memba said that all power to those customers had been restored. He said the cause of the outage is currently unclear and is under investigation by DTE.
Additionally, a DTE news release stated that 120,000 customers across the state lost power due to high winds Sunday night, with approximately 25,000 still without electricity. An estimation using DTE’s power outage map shows that approximately 350 of those outages came in Washtenaw County.
Wayne County was hit hardest by the storm, with 5,900 customers losing power. DTE expects to have 90 percent of the outages across their service area restored by Monday evening.
