Two guns were stolen when a suspect broke into a home in the 9100 block of Lakewood Drive in Northfield Township during daylight hours Thursday, police said
A suspect or suspects broke a rear sliding glass door to enter the residence and ransacked the house looking for items to steal. Police were able to collect some evidence and currently are investigating the matter.
It is the second burglary reported in the general area in the past few weeks, Northfield Township police Lt. Tim Greene said.
On Aug. 31, police were dispatched to the 600 block of Jennings Road at 9:31 p.m. A home alarm had sounded at a residence there.
"They kicked in the front door and stole jewelry," Greene said.
The alarm, however, frightened the suspects and prevented them from staying in the house for long.
"It scared the crap out of the burglars," Greene said.
Police are not saying the two incidents are related, but Greene did say it is very "coincidental" they occurred so close to one another in a short span of time with similar modus operandi.
Greene said the area typically is pretty quiet and the burglaries aren't the norm. Police have issued a warning to residents.
"Please be mindful of suspicious persons or activity in your neighborhood and report anything out of the ordinary to police," Northfield Township police said in a news release.
