The county is not in the top five in the state for the number of patients with medical marijuana cards per capita, but it is in the top 10.
This is how the 15 most populous Michigan counties rank per capita for the number of patients with medical marijuana cards. Population rank, according to the 2010 census, is denoted in parentheses:
- 1. Jackson (14): 3,729 patients per 160,248 people
- 2. Genesee (5): 8,231 patients per 425,790 people
- 3. Ingham (7): 4,893 patients per 280,895 people
- 4. Muskegon (12): 2,615 patients per 172,188 people
- 5. Berrien (15): 2,371 patients per 156,813 people
- 6. St. Clair (13): 2,293 patients per 163,040 people
- 7. Washtenaw (6): 4,458 patients per 344,791 people
- 8. Kalamazoo (9): 3,063 patients per 250,331 people
- 9. Livingston (11): 1,867 patients per 180,967 people
- 10. Kent (4): 6,002 patients per 602,622 people
- 11. Macomb (3): 8,319 patients per 840,978 people
- 12. Saginaw (10): 1,951 patients per 200,169 people
- 13. Ottawa (8): 2,498 patients per 263,801 people
- 14. Oakland (2): 11,117 patients per 1,202,362 people
- 15. Wayne (1): 14,736 patients per 1,820,584 people
If Michigan counties were to be ranked by the number of patients with medical marijuana cards alone, Washtenaw County would still be number seven on that list. By that ranking, Wayne County would have the top spot, followed by Oakland County at No. 2 and Macomb County at No. 3
The data on the number of patients with medical marijuana cards was released as a part of an annual report that was compiled during the state’s 2012 fiscal year between Oct. 1, 2011 and Sept. 30, 2012.
The report is required by the Michigan Medical Marihuana Act. It also revealed that state revenue — $9.9 million — from the medical marijuana program exceeded its costs by $6.3 million in the 2012 fiscal year, MLive reported.
