The Oakland County prosecutor's office plans to charge a county commissioner candidate, who is an Eastern Michigan University student, with election fraud, according to the Detroit Free Press.

John Scott, an independent candidate and a 22-year-old EMU student, is running against Republican incumbent John Scott, who said he grew suspicious over the summer when a petition began circulating.

The incumbent commissioner says several of his supporters signed the petition and he alleges the other Scott intended to confuse people and split the vote, the Free Press reports.

The car the men asking for signatures were seen getting into belongs to Alexandria Riley, a 26-year-old Sylvan Lake resident who is the Democratic candidate for the county commission seat held by the incumbent John Scott, according to the Free Press.

Misdemeanor election fraud carries a 93-day maximum jail sentence.
