A 39-year-old Ann Arbor man was arrested on suspicion of breaking into a party store in the 500 block of West Cross Street early Wednesday morning and stealing cartons of cigarettes, Ypsilanti police said.
Officers responded to an alarm at the party store around 4:15 a.m. and discovered the front door had been smashed.“We believe it was broken out with a two by four,” said Ypsilanti police Sgt. Brent Yuchasz.
Twelve hours later, police had the suspect in custody.
“The officers worked the case throughout the day," Yuchasz said. "They were able to identify him through the video surveillance."
The man was arrested around 5 p.m. as he walked down an Ypsilanti street near the party store by patrol officers who recognized him from the video, police said.
The Ann Arbor man is currently being held at the Washtenaw County Jail, where he is expected to be arraigned Friday on breaking and entering charges.
