Milan Area Schools will spend between $10,000 and $12,000 on a new marketing campaign to hopefully attract more out-of-boundary students and boost enrollment, according to an article in the Milan News-Leader.

The newspaper reports the teachers union plans to give $5,000 toward the campaign.

Superintendent Bryan Girbach said in the News-Leader that Milan has seen fewer out-of-district students enrolling through Schools of Choice in recent years, despite more than 400 students enrolling this year through the choice program.

Based on Milan's total 2012-13 academic year enrollment of 2,434 students, that's about 16 percent of its student population.

According to the district's website, the Schools of Choice application period for first semester of the 2013-14 academic year will begin on April 15 and end on Sept. 6. The application process can be started any time. Visit the district's website for more information.
