Deputies were called at 1 a.m. to a residence in the 2900 block of Washtenaw Avenue in Ypsilanti Township to investigate a report of the two men fighting, said Sgt. Geoff Fox the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office.
The two men had been inside the home watching movies on a laptop computer when the victim fell asleep. When he woke up, both Coady and the laptop were gone, police said.
"The victim went outside and found the suspect leaving the area but confronted him about the missing computer," Fox said in a release. "The suspect then began to punch the victim numerous times and grabbed him around the neck, choking him to the point of almost passing out."
The man tried to get away, but three different times police said Coady grabbed and choked him. After the third time, the victim was able to escape and call 911. Police arrested Coady a short time later in the area, Fox said.
He was arraigned the same day from the Washtenaw County Jail, where he continues to be held on a $25,000 cash or surety bond. Coady was appointed a public defender. A preliminary examination is scheduled for April 23.
