Police are investigating a break-in at the former Cheney Academy elementary school in the 1500 block of Stamford Avenue in Superior Township.
The building, part of the Willow Run School District, now houses a countywide alternative high school program.
Deputies from the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office went the the building around midnight Saturday to investigate a burglary alarm, according to a news release.
While checking the outside of the building, they discovered several broken windows and saw two or three suspects running from the school.
Deputies didn’t catch the suspects, but did recover numerous stolen items they had dropped while fleeing, Among them were headphones, a computer projector, keyboards and a computer mouse.
There are no suspects at this time. Police continue to investigate.
The building houses the W-A-Y (Widening Advancements for Youth) Washtenaw program, which provides flexible, project-based education for students who struggle in regular school environments.
