Two men smoking crack cocaine together got in an argument and one of the men struck the other with a lamp, causing a cut severe enough to send the victim to the hospital, Ypsilanti police said.

Ypsilanti police Detective Sgt. Thomas Eberts said police responded at 4:15 a.m. Tuesday to the 700 block of Washtenaw Avenue for a report of an assault between acquaintances. When they arrived, police found a man bleeding from a severe laceration to his head.

Eberts said a witness told police two men were smoking crack cocaine together in an apartment. The two men got in a verbal argument about an unknown topic, but apparently the discussion got heated enough for one man to take a lamp and hit the other in the head.

The suspect then fled the apartment and police were called to the scene, Eberts said. The victim was uncooperative and was transported to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital for treatment.

The investigation into the incident continues, Eberts said.
