The Milan Area Schools Board of Education set a January deadline for creating a new Big Reds logo for the district’s athletics teams, according to a report in the Milan-News Leader.
A simple black and red Big Reds flag flew over the football field at Milan High School during a varsity football game Oct. 12. The district is in the process of redesigning its logo and mascot, which was previously a Native American chief.

All of the logos using the spear and feathers and chief images must be gone by Aug. 30, 2015.
A group of volunteers met Oct. 11 and Oct. 25 to begin the task, the newspaper said. Coming up with a new mascot will be second on the committee’s list of things to tackle, according to the report.
