Buses en route to a band competition in Detroit on Saturday will avoid Interstate 96 in light of the spate of shootings in the area of the freeway over the past few weeks, the Detroit News reported.
The superintendent for Grandville schools, Ron Caniff, told the newspaper his district and others in west Michigan will not take the freeway on their way to Ford Field Saturday for the Michigan Competing Band Association state finals even though that's the way they usually go.
Caniff told the newspaper it's the "prudent thing to do" in light of the I-96 corridor shootings.
