The Michigan Board of State Canvassers has placed on the ballot the issue of whether to repeal the emergency manager law.

The bipartisan board Wednesday unanimously certified the referendum for the November election after orders from the Michigan Supreme Court. The 2011 law is suspended and Gov. Rick Snyder's administration says an older law granting managers fewer powers replaces it.

The Local Emergency Financial Assistance Loan Board is scheduled to meet later Wednesday to re-appoint managers in Benton Harbor, Ecorse and Pontiac. Flint is expected to get a new manager because of a technicality in the old law.

A union-backed group collected more than 200,000 signatures to get the referendum before voters. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of the group in a dispute over type size on the petitions.
