An Eastern Michigan University student could face breaking and entering and sexual assault charges after he was accused of sneaking into his friend's dorm room and engaging in unwanted sexual contact with him early Tuesday morning, EMU police said.
The man reported the incident to EMU police around 6 a.m. Tuesday, Chief Bob Heighes said. He told police he was sleeping in his Wise Residence Hall dorm room at 4:10 a.m. when his friend, another male EMU student who also lived in the dorm, entered the room.
"One of the residents was asleep in the bed and another was in the room and touched him inappropriately," Heighes said. "They live in the same dorm. They're friends."
Police were not releasing the ages of the two men. They also could not go into details about the nature of the sexual contact, though Heighes said if charges were brought, the student would likely face a count of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct.
The accused student came in and out of the other student's room frequently as a result of their friendship, police said. The door was unlocked when the man entered. A roommate was in the dorm room sleeping when the alleged incident occurred, according to police.
The man accused of the sexual assault is denying it at this point, Heighes said. The man admits he was in the room, but has said there was no inappropriate touching. Police are saying alcohol was not a factor.
Heighes said officers are still conducting interviews and investigating the matter.
"We're still trying to figure out what happened," he said.
