A Dexter High School 10th-grader was suspended from school after posting a Twitter message that contained threatening comments about the school, police said Thursday.

A parent saw the tweet on his or her child’s phone and contacted the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office in the early morning hours of Wednesday, deputies said in a press release.

Deputies identified and contacted the student who posted the tweet, which police said contained “inappropriate and threatening comments about the school.”

The threat was not directed at a specific person and there was no indication that Dexter High School students were in danger, deputies said in the release. Dexter High School Principal Kit Moran said Thursday student safety is the first priority but there was no reason to believe school should not go on as usual.

The student will kept out of school during the criminal investigation, deputies said.
