The Snyder administration said Friday that the Michigan Cyber Range initially will be housed at Eastern Michigan University. Additional sites are planned for Ferris State University and the 110th Airlift Wing in Battle Creek.

The facility is designed to serve as a central resource hub and training center to enhance Michigan's protection of computer systems and sensitive data. It's a partnership between the state, federal and local governments, colleges and universities, and the private sector. Another partner is the nonprofit Merit Network, which operates a regional research and education network.

The facility is part of the Republican governor's cyber initiative launched last fall.
