Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder has announced the opening of a facility at Eastern Michigan University designed to help electronic security professionals detect and prevent cyber threats and attacks.

The facility is designed to serve as a central resource hub and training center to enhance Michigan's protection of computer systems and sensitive data. It's a partnership between the state, federal and local governments, colleges and universities, and the private sector. Another partner is the nonprofit Merit Network, which operates a regional research and education network.
The facility is part of the Republican governor's cyber initiative launched last fall.
