Officials say Ellickson will be honored Saturday as the 2012 recipient of the Yankee Award for Valor, given annually by the Yankee Air Museum at Willow Run Airport.

Ellickson served as a crew chief on the B-17G "Flying Fortress" and has enjoyed a 26-year love affair with the plane as part of a lifelong affection for aviation. He served a tour in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 in Germany.

Ellickson is a founding member of the Yankee Air Force and was among about a dozen members who bought the Yankee Lady in 1986, followed by a 10-year restoration effort. That resulted in the plane returning to the air in 1995.
