The village of Dexter is taking a look at expanding bus service in the community with Western-Washtenaw Area Value Express after Ann Arbor opted out of the proposed countywide regional transportation authority, the Dexter Leader reported.
Officials said they're particularly interested in expanding the Community Connector service, which runs once every two hours from Chelsea to Ann Arbor, stopping at smaller municipalities including Dexter along the way, the report said.
The village could seek funding via a federal grant as well as increased funding from some townships, according to the story.
The Ann Arbor City Council voted Nov. 9 to reject a new transit authority called Washtenaw Ride that would have replaced the Ann Arbor Transportation Authority. A number of townships had previously opted out of the plan. Dexter was scheduled to vote on the authority Nov. 12.
After Ann Arbor's vote killed the proposed authority, the AATA said it would adjust its focus to transit upgrades in the urban core. According to a previous AnnArbor.com report, initial efforts going forward will focus on communities that have expressed interest in a regional transit network: the cities of Ann Arbor, Saline and Ypsilanti, the townships of Pittsfield, Scio, Superior and Ypsilanti, and the village of Dexter.
