A man has been arrested after turning himself in for allegedly sexually assaulting a 53-year-old woman in a Pittsfield Township office park last month.
Pittsfield Township police released a statement Thursday stating the man identified himself to police on Wednesday after seeing surveillance photos released to the media. He was lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail, where he awaits arraignment.
Police are not releasing the man’s name until he is arraigned.
According to police, the woman had left a local party store and was walking through an office park in the 4900 block of Clark Road on Oct. 25. The man approached her from behind and allegedly grabbed her, according to police.
Police said the man grabbed the woman by the arm and dragged her to a secluded area, punching her several times in the back of the head and attempting to remove her clothes. The woman fought back repeatedly and eventually a witness intervened to interrupt the incident.
The man then ran away from the area along Golfside Drive and into a nearby apartment building, according to police.
The woman and the man did not know each other and the woman told police she believed he was following her.
