Rise: Ypsilanti Township Fire DepartmentIn this line of work, you go in to the office every day under the assumption that you could end up risking your life to save someone else. That having been said, it's not every day that you can go a step further and actually help bring a new life into the world. Two firefighters who responded to a call Wednesday night at a township apartment complex did just that and deserve a big pat on the back for helping to deliver a healthy baby boy.
Fall: Huron High School football coach Cory Gildersleeve Huron High School’s former football coach brought a lot of passion to his job. That passion didn’t serve him, his team or the Ann Arbor Public Schools well when it fueled an October on-field brawl after the Pioneer game. We think his resignation, announced Nov. 8, was the right step. However, we will point out that doing it right after the brawl or at the close of the season - not during a team banquet - may have offered the community a stronger message about sportsmanship and the role of coaches to self-monitor their own performance.
