Two Ypsilanti charities have received $60,000 in donations to further their efforts to help the surrounding community, the Ypsilanti Courier reported.
Girls on the Run International received $40,000 and the Washtenaw Area Council for Children received $20,000 from the Detroit Auto Dealers Association.
Girls on the Run has self-esteem programs for girls in Livingston, Macomb and Washtenaw counties and the Washtenaw Area Council for Children operates a program that focuses on Internet and social media safety for youth, according to the Courier.
Girls on the Run Executive Director Danielle Plunkett said the organization has grown 225 percent over the last three years and gave out $77,000 in scholarships 2012. The organization helps more than 2,000 children and families per year.
Jyoti Gupta, the executive director of the Washtenaw Area Council for Children, said the DADA funds will help further a program that started in 2006.
