Two Ypsilanti residents are in serious condition after a Tuesday night traffic accident on M-14 in Ann Arbor, state police said.

The victims, a man and woman, were passengers in the vehicle. The driver, a Livonia man, was uninjured.

Michigan State Police were dispatched to M-14 near Barton Drive for the accident at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday night. Detective Sgt. Angela Hunt said there was only the one car involved and that alcohol is believed to have been a factor.

The man and woman were pinned in and required extrication, said Joyce Williams of Huron Valley Ambulance.

The pair were transported to U-M Hospital. The two were in unstable condition, Williams said.

State police shut down M-14 for two hours to investigate the accident Tuesday night. An investigation of how the accident transpired continued Wednesday morning.

No other information was immediately available. This story will be updated.
