A 22-year-old Milford man was punched in the face and kicked while on the ground after confronting a man who was insulting his girlfriend early Saturday morning.

Ann Arbor police Lt. Renee Bush said police responded to the intersection of East University Avenue and South University Avenue at 2:30 a.m. Saturday after the fight was reported.

Bush said the Milford man was waiting in a restaurant line to get pizza when he encountered a man he knew. The man began insulting the Milford man’s girlfriend and the Milford man informed him he didn’t appreciate the derogatory words.

Bush said the two men went outside to talk and the Milford man was hit and ended up on the ground. While the Milford man was unable to tell who hit him, a witness said the known man punched the Milford man.

A group of men with the man then started kicking the Milford man while he was on the ground, Bush said.

The victim had a laceration on the back of his head and unspecified injuries to the front of his head, Bush said. There were no arrests mentioned by police.

Anyone with information on this incident is encouraged to call the Ann Arbor police anonymous tip line at 734-794-6939 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP (773-2587).
