A Chelsea-area man has been working to unpack and organize donations of military effects at the Yankee Air Museum following a 2004 fire that destroyed much of its previous artifacts, the Observer & Eccentric reported.

After working on the inventory since February, Scott Gerych and his father have identified at least one era where they'd like to expand: Iraq and Afghanistan, the report said. They're seeking uniforms and personal effects from recent veterans to display in the museum, at the Willow Run Airport east of Ypsilanti.

The 2004 fire destroyed eight aircraft, uniforms, medals and thousands of artifacts valued at more than $4 million.

The items will be catalogued and displayed in a nearby schoolhouse along with dozens of other military uniforms that hang in chronological order, according to the story.

Contact the museum at 734-483-4030.
