A 26-year-old Ypsilanti Township man has been charged in the Dec. 29 armed robbery of an Ypsilanti Rite Aid.

Douglas Darone Norwood was arrested Thursday at a relative's residence in Detroit and was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail. He was arraigned Saturday on charges of armed robbery, according to a news release from Ypsilanti police.

Police were searching for the suspect in robbery, which occurred around 7:25 p.m. Dec. 29 at the Rite Aid at 753 S. Grove St. The suspect entered the store as if to make a purchase and displayed a black semi-automatic handgun once the cash register was open. Police said he took an unknown amount of cash from the drawer and fled the scene on foot. A K-9 track was unsuccessful.

Ypsilanti police said Saturday that the follow-up investigation revealed Norwood as the suspect. Police previously told AnnArbor.com that they were working to extract surveillance footage from the store, but it was not immediately clear if that's how Norwood was identified.

If you have any additional information regarding this case please contact Detective Sergeant Thomas Eberts at 734-482-9878 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAKUP (773-2587).
