Natural Area Preservation and REI are leading a volunteer stewardship workday to remove invasive shrubs from Furstenberg Nature Area in honor of Martin Luther King Day.

The event will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday and participants are asked to meet in the nature area parking lot, just off Fuller Road across from Huron High School.

“Martin Luther King devoted his life to advancing equality, social justice, and opportunity for all, and taught us that everyone has a role to play in making America what it ought to be,” said Christine Chessler-Stull, the park steward coordinator at NAP.

Volunteers are encouraged to layer their clothing. NAP will provide handsaws, loppers, thermal gloves, snacks and guidance.

The event is all-ages, but minors are required to have a waiver form signed by an adult in order to participate.
