A 25-year-old Dexter man is facing warrants for two additional charges of second-degree home invasion for break-ins he allegedly committed in July and August, according to court records.
Steven Colwell faces eight separate home invasion cases for a total of 10 felony charges.
Colwell was originally arrested after a Webster Township break-in on Aug. 9. After that arrest by the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office, Colwell allegedly confessed to many other home invasions in the county, including in the Ann Arbor and Dexter areas.
The latest charges come from break-ins on July 26 and Aug. 9, according to court records. Sgt. Geoffrey Fox, of the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office, was not immediately available for comment on the circumstances of those break-ins. Colwell had not been arraigned on the charges as of Tuesday morning.
Colwell also is accused of breaking into Ann Arbor homes on July 10, July 12, July 18, July 28 and Aug. 3, court records show.
Colwell is being held in the Washtenaw County Jail on a $10,000 cash or surety bond. His next scheduled court appointment is a pretrial hearing in front of Washtenaw County Trial Court Judge Archie Brown at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a preliminary exam at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, records show.
After he is arraigned on the latest warrant, Colwell will face a total of seven counts of second-degree home invasion, two counts of stealing a financial transaction device and one count of first-degree home invasion.
Two other men were with Colwell when he allegedly broke into the home in the 7000 block of Quail Ridge on Aug. 9. Fox said last week the two men were identified but had not been charged with any crimes in relation to the incident. They are accused of stealing jewelry from the house.
