Authorities say a breaking-and-entering suspect who led police on a chase has been killed in a shootout with officers in Livingston County.
Investigators say the man was shot Monday by a Michigan State Police trooper in Green Oak Township, about 35 miles northwest of Detroit.
Police say the chase begin after a 911 call about a break-in. Police found the suspect's vehicle and the chase ended at the suspect's home.
The suspect reportedly fired at police during a confrontation. His name wasn't immediately released.
The shooting is under investigation. In keeping with state police policy, the trooper involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave.
The shooting comes less than a week after a state police trooper shot and killed a man after a chase. A trooper shot Gabriel Stevenson, 18, of Ypsilanti Feb. 12 after he crashed his car into a house and lunged at police with a knife, police said. The shooting came after Stevenson shot at police in Northville Township as they tried to conduct a traffic stop and led them on a chase through Salem Township in Washtenaw County.
