A lovers' quarrel turned violent early Thursday morning when a man punched a hotel employee who was trying to quiet down an argument in the parking lot, police said.

Ann Arbor police Lt. Renee Bush said police responded at 2:58 a.m. Thursday to the Residence Inn, 800 Victors Way, to investigate a report of a man punching an employee in the face.

Bush said the hotel employee approached a couple who were arguing about a romantic relationship. The man was yelling during the early morning hours and the employee asked him to quiet down.

The man took offense to this request and punched the employee on the right and left sides of his head, police said.

The employee immediately went inside to the front desk of the hotel and called police. Officers responded and arrested the 45-year-old Ann Arbor man on suspicion of assault.

The employee reported minor injuries to his head but did not require medical treatment.
