Three residents fled a burning home in Ann Arbor Thursday night, but firefighters were able to contain the blaze to a single bedroom, an Ann Arbor fire official said.
Ann Arbor Fire Department Battalion Chief Steven Lowe said in a statement firefighters were sent at 10 p.m. Thursday to a home in the 1800 block of North Maple Road. Lowe said the three people at the home evacuated immediately after discovering the fire and called 911.
“The occupants did not try to extinguish by themselves,” Lowe said in the statement. “Upon discovering the fire they called 911 and evacuated the home. Their quick action assisted us in keeping the fire in one room of this home.”
Firefighters kept the fire from spreading into the attic, Lowe said. There is water and smoke damage to the home but a damage estimate was not available Friday morning.
Crews worked at the home for two hours to extinguish the fire and knock down any remaining embers.
Lowe praised the work of firefighters who were able to get to the scene quickly and contain the fire.
“Fire crews did a great job in stopping the fire in the room of origin,” he said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
