Ann Arbor Fire Department Battalion Chief Kevin Cook said firefighters got a call reporting smoke coming from a home in the 1000 block of Barton Drive at 10:51 a.m. Monday. No one was at the residence and a neighbor reported seeing smoke coming from the roof.
Firefighters had just driven past the home on their way back from a medical call Monday morning when they were dispatched to the fire. Cook said they were able to turn around and arrive quickly enough to keep the fire contained to the room, which was the homeowner’s office.
There was damage to the wall and possible damage to computers, printers and other electronic equipment that was kept in the room, Cook said.
The fire appears to be accidental but the investigation was just beginning. First responders cleared the scene by 11:45 a.m. Monday.
Ann Arbor Police Department personnel closed off the 1000 block of Barton Drive while firefighters worked the blaze.
No one was injured in the fire and mutual aid was not required, Cook said.
